Tao Te Ching · Chapter 09
持而盈之,不若其已。
It is better to desist
Than to try to hold it upright and fill it to the brim.
揣而銳之,不可長葆也。
Pounded out to a point
Its sharpness cannot be long maintained.
金玉盈室,莫之能守也。
When treasure fills the hall, No one is able to keep it safe.
貴富而驕,自遺咎也。
Those who are arrogant because of station and wealth
Bring calamity upon themselves.
功遂身退,天之道也。
To retire when the deed is done
Is the way (道) that natural law(天) works.
